Below are some of the rave reviews we have been receiving from happy clients who have stayed at our properties. We hope you will have just as fine a time as they did.

HORIZON HOUSE

“Saw Saturn tonight through the binoculars, and could even make out it’s rings”

“Awoke to glorious sunshine pouring in- a common occurrence here, we’re beginning to find out… a perfect night- Turkey Leek pie and The Story of Hiawatha”
Ian, Sue, Ingrid and Ewan

“Words are not enough to describe all we have experienced in a few short days in your awesome place. We have enjoyed minute to minute the changing scenes that surround this magical “dream house”, including a double rainbow last night. It has been an honor to be a guest at Horizon House. We couldn’t be more relaxed or inspired”
Ginny and Rowley

“I’ve never experienced the Lake as magnificently as here at Horizon House. What a perfect name. Jerry grilled our steaks on the patio surrounded by roses. We will travel up Hwy. 61 today but we hate to leave this place.”
Jerry and Jeannette

“We stayed at Horizon House for our annual women’s weekend. You should have heard the ooh’s and aah’s when we walked in the door. We were prepared for something special but the reality was far better than the fantasy. The views of the lake are superb and the house is well equipped and comfortable. We truly enjoyed ourselves hiking, playing games, chatting and laughing a lot. Now it’s time to go and we are still mesmerized by the lake views.
Ps. We saw two beautiful Harvest Moons!

“We opened the door and our jaws dropped! What a gorgeous place! We came to relax, read, paint and think about our retirement and we could not have asked for a more perfect place to do all those things. We had 10 sunny days, a day of large waves, one where there was no Horizon at all, and several gorgeous sunrises that we woke for. We once lived in a house with many Frank Loyd Wright influences and this reminds me so much of that- the corner windows, the use of bright orange and pine, and successfully bringing the outdoors in. I’m a realistic portrait painter and I did my first two oil landscapes here! The Light is incredible! Who could resist!?

“My sister and I carefully prepared with my “boombox”, CD’s and tapes to watch. Little did we know your lovely home had everything we loved!! Books and books -- our eyes lit up! Music!! And the very best surprise a piano!
Carol

Our stay was perfection!! My sister and I were lucky enough to be there for 7 days. I must say, your website prepared me for a wonderful stay, but we couldn't believe it when we pulled into the driveway. My sister was prepared for a housekeeping cabin, and I wanted this to be a surprise for her and also a retreat and gift to her for surviving a year of turmoil and exasperation. She was overwhelmed by the location and the generosity of you letting strangers stay in your personal space (as was I). And to make it the best it could ever have been - a piano! Oh, the wonderful hours I spent listening to her play to her heart's content!!!

We hauled up a van full of our scrap booking and had many treasured hours pouring over our family photos and making even more memories. The beginning of the week was cold, windy and rainy, with absolutely perfect windswept waves for the next few days. Then the weather lightened up and we had our fill of hiking for the next few days and back "home" again for cuddling up in your cozy space. We had each brought up a least 5 books apiece, CD's full of favorite songs, and even our own boom box. Imagine our JOY to see ALL THOSE BOOKS and a great stereo and a nice mix of music. It was like you knew our every love. And we are still in awe of the splendor of the sun pouring in!
Thank you, thank you and more thank you's.

What a magical place! Horizon House filled me with profound energy and joy.
The fabulous art inside was an added pleasure. My husband loved the never ending visual delights and the calm of the house. We both were astounded by the view from the shower! As past Duluthians, we always try to get to the Big Lake a couple of times a year. This past trip to your home for our 29th anniversary was the most memorable. We saw eagles, loons, a double rainbow, minute by minute changing sky scapes, butterflies, spring wildflowers, a lone white pelican and so much more. I was able to do several watercolors and shoot some great photos. We took a long hike and watched the changing light of a spectacular day. We truly enjoyed every minute.

We saw an eagle this morning from the front lake window

“They” say there’s a treasure buried in the North woods! And we found it-here at Pineknot. What a delightful time we had. We arrived under churning skies and for two mornings awoke to rain and wind. So we built fires to drive away the gloom and found our special spots to read, to muse, to dream. We listened to the rain on the roof and watched the Lake swell in rhythms of energy and majesty-predictably unpredictable. On the third morning a glorious cerulean blue sky greeted us and the day brought us outdoors to walk and hike, to sketch, to visit old and new friends. The evenings were the time for dancing fires, lively conversation and bundling up under the thousands of stars that filled the black velvet sky, we even saw shooting stars! The log home has an old world charm. To imagine the decades of laughter, fun, joy, promise, discovery that are part of its history was fun.

“We feel truly blessed and will return home with many fun memories. Our children were delighted with the cabin. They explored everything. They read books, played games, listened to music by the fire, followed the path down to the lake, roasted marshmallows and then snuggled into their beds at night. Even though we went down the Alpine Slide, drove up the Gunflint on a Moose hunt and hiked the Cascade park, I think the cabin was really the highlight.”
The R family

“We have been renting private homes in this area for many years, always in search of the perfect retreat. I think we finally found it. The old rustic charm of this cabin adds just the right touch to the majestic Lake Superior views”
Pam and Don

“A moose, 2 deer, and a loon, Oh My! (all in the first 2 days!) What a beautiful weekend at Pineknot. We love it here. Comfy bed last night, exceptionally clean cabin.”
Bruce and Colette

“What a great place! We had lots of blue sky for hiking and one rainy morning to enjoy a fire in the fireplace, and read a book. The Maple trees in the area are at their peak for some great photos too!”
John and Gail

“This was an experience of a lifetime. We had visits from red breasted nuthatches, hairy wood-peckers, chickadees and two eagles (one sitting in the west birches while we had our morning coffee). We also loved all the neat old household items, maps and pictures. You have a wonderful family tradition here and hope it continues forever.” Ann and Colby
Our stay at Pine Knot was wonderful! There is nothing more
relaxing than lying in bed (and what comfortable beds they
were!) hearing the waves of Lake Superior lapping at the rocks.

"I first visited [the Lutsen area] about 12 years ago and we've
been up at least once a year since. The location of your cottage
has been the best we've experienced."
K.

"Ever since childhood I've wanted to stay in a log cabin.

You've made my dreams come true! We had an incredible amount of fun exploring the area.
Not surprising at all was the fact that none of us wanted to leave."
G.

"We had a wonderful week at Pine Knot.
It certainly is a great place for a vacation."
